Jeff Vahle’s 36-year career with The Walt Disney Company has come to an end, closing a significant chapter in Walt Disney World leadership. July 31, 2026, marked Vahle’s final day as president of the Florida resort and his last day with Disney, following the retirement announcement he made in May.
Vahle leaves the company after a career that began in 1990, when he joined Walt Disney World as an engineer at Magic Kingdom. Over the next three and a half decades, he moved through a wide range of operational and executive roles, building experience across Disney’s theme park and resort businesses in the United States and abroad.
His career included work connected to the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, leadership assignments supporting Disney California Adventure, Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disney Resort, and oversight of Disney Signature Experiences. That division includes businesses such as Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, Adventures by Disney and other destination-focused offerings.
Vahle was named president of Walt Disney World Resort in 2020. In that role, he oversaw one of the largest workforces in the Disney organization, with approximately 80,000 cast members supporting four theme parks, two water parks, dozens of resort hotels, Disney Springs, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the extensive operations required to keep the destination running.
His tenure also covered a period of substantial investment across the resort. Projects completed while he was president included TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at EPCOT, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the updated Country Bear Musical Jamboree, a reimagined Test Track and the Island Tower addition at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.
Vahle is departing as Walt Disney World enters another major development cycle. Disney has already begun work tied to new lands and attractions at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Those projects include the resort’s largest-ever Magic Kingdom expansion, along with new experiences based on Cars, Disney Villains, Monsters, Inc., Indiana Jones and Encanto.
The leadership transition was announced as part of a broader set of changes within Disney Experiences. Joe Schott will succeed Vahle as president of Walt Disney World Resort, with his first day in the role scheduled for Aug. 3. Schott brings more than 40 years of Disney experience and, like Vahle, has led both Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Signature Experiences.
Schott’s appointment also represents a return to the place where his own Disney career began. He started as a Jungle Cruise skipper at Magic Kingdom before moving into increasingly senior operational roles across Disney’s international and domestic businesses. Most recently, he oversaw Disney Signature Experiences during a period that included the launches of the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure cruise ships.
Vahle’s departure comes shortly after another major leadership change at the top of Disney’s parks business. Thomas Mazloum became chairman of Disney Experiences earlier in 2026, taking over the segment responsible for Disney’s global theme parks, cruise line and consumer products operations.
Although Vahle’s final day closes his formal role at Disney, the projects developed and advanced during his presidency will continue shaping Walt Disney World for years. His career spanned the opening of new parks, international expansion, cruise and resort growth, and a period of renewed investment in the Florida destination. With Schott now stepping into the position, Walt Disney World moves into its next era under a leader with a similarly broad background across Disney’s worldwide operations.
