Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is preparing for a lengthy refurbishment of its convention center, with work scheduled to begin Aug. 10, 2026, and continue through late September 2027. The project will also extend into the El Centro corridor and surrounding areas, creating a phased construction period lasting more than a year.
The convention center will not close in its entirety during the refurbishment. Instead, individual rooms and sections will become unavailable at different times as crews move through the facility. Disney has not released a detailed phase-by-phase calendar identifying which spaces will close first or how long each portion of the work will remain inaccessible.
Construction is expected to take place overnight, which should reduce the most noticeable impact during daytime events and normal resort operations. Even so, meeting planners and hotel guests may encounter temporary walls, adjusted walking routes or unavailable spaces as the project progresses. Disney has not announced any broad closure of the resort’s restaurants, guest rooms, pools or other recreational facilities in connection with the convention center work.
The scale and duration of the project are notable because Coronado Springs is one of Walt Disney World’s principal convention destinations. Disney’s official meetings website lists 228,000 square feet of total function space at the resort, including an 86,000-square-foot exhibit hall. The property also offers five permanent registration counters, a full-service business center, loading docks and meeting-room technology designed to support conferences and large events.
Gran Destino Tower adds another 3,000 square feet of meeting and event space, along with a 24-seat boardroom. Across the resort, Disney lists 2,416 guest rooms and suites, allowing organizations to combine lodging, dining and meeting facilities at a single Walt Disney World property.
The refurbishment’s inclusion of the El Centro corridor is likely to make the project more visible to regular vacation guests, even when they are not attending an event. El Centro connects several of the resort’s central services and sits near dining and convention facilities. Disney has not specified which finishes, systems or design elements will be updated, so the exact scope of the renovation remains unclear.
Coronado Springs has undergone several substantial changes in recent years. Gran Destino Tower opened in 2019 as the resort’s new main entrance, adding hotel rooms, meeting areas and elevated dining. The broader property blends Spanish, Mexican and Southwest American influences around Lago Dorado, with accommodations and amenities spread across a large lakeside layout.
For convention groups, the phased approach should allow Disney to continue hosting business while sections of the facility are refreshed. However, the long timeline means events scheduled between August 2026 and September 2027 could experience different conditions depending on when and where they are held. Organizers will need to coordinate with Disney Meetings & Events for the latest information on room availability and access.
Vacation guests staying at Coronado Springs during the project should also review resort notices before arrival. Although the work is planned for overnight hours and the convention center will remain partially available, construction schedules can change. Disney’s current notice places the end of the refurbishment in late September 2027, making this one of the resort’s most extended announced renovation periods.
