Magic Kingdom is the iconic centerpiece of the Walt Disney World Resort. When did Magic Kingdom open?
The park officially opened on October 1, 1971. Despite the Florida Highway Patrol predicting 300,000 visitors, only about 10,000 guests attended on opening day, allowing the park to have a “soft” start before becoming the global phenomenon it is today.
How big is Cinderella Castle?
The iconic castle stands 189 feet tall—purposely built to be under 190 feet to avoid the requirement of a flashing red aviation light. It features 27 towers and took 18 months to complete.
Original 1971 Ticket Prices:
On opening day, adult general admission was just $3.50. However, this only granted entry; guests had to use “A-E” coupons to experience individual attractions, with “E-Tickets” reserved for the most exciting rides like Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion.
