Disney has expanded Zootopia: Better Zoogether! at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a new pre-show scene featuring Mayor Brian Winddancer, the actor-turned-politician introduced in Zootopia 2. The sequence debuted July 29, adding fresh story context before guests join the main Zoogether Day presentation inside the Tree of Life Theater.
Voiced once again by Patrick Warburton, Mayor Winddancer appears during a press conference held to launch the citywide celebration. The character welcomes guests and begins explaining the importance of Zoogether Day, which brings residents from Zootopia’s different biomes together for a series of performances.
The event quickly encounters trouble when Winddancer receives word that someone may be attempting to disrupt the festivities. Although the mayor initially insists that the situation is under control, he soon calls for help from “the bunny and fox,” setting up the involvement of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in the story that follows.
The addition gives the attraction a clearer narrative bridge into its main presentation. Previously, guests entered the Zoogether Day LIVE! watch party hosted by fast-talking wolf Heidi Howler before following broadcasts from across the mammal metropolis. Mayor Winddancer’s press conference now establishes the stakes before that celebration begins, connecting the attraction more directly to characters and events introduced in Zootopia 2.
Warburton’s appearance also brings a familiar voice back to a Walt Disney World pre-show. In addition to playing Winddancer, the actor is well known among Disney Parks visitors for his role as the flight attendant who delivers safety instructions before Soarin’. His distinctive delivery makes the new Animal Kingdom scene immediately recognizable, while the character’s confident but somewhat overwhelmed personality fits the attraction’s fast-moving setup.
Walt Disney Imagineering shared a behind-the-scenes look at the work required to integrate the scene into the existing experience. Teams from multiple disciplines completed overnight adjustments to synchronize the new material with the attraction’s lighting, audio and special effects while the theater was closed to guests.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened Nov. 7, 2025, replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug! beneath the Tree of Life. The 4D show places guests at the center of Zoogether Day, a fictional holiday celebrating unity among the city’s many species and neighborhoods.
The presentation includes ice-skating from Tundratown, synchronized swimming from Marsh Market, a drone display above Little Rodentia and a musical finale led by Gazelle. Guests watch the festivities using “CarrotVision” glasses, while an Audio-Animatronics figure of Zootopia Police Department officer Benjamin Clawhauser appears inside the theater.
Several members of the films’ voice cast contributed to the attraction, including Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde. Disney Animation filmmakers Jared Bush and Byron Howard also worked with Walt Disney Imagineering on the project, helping connect the park experience with the visual style and storytelling of the movies.
Adding Mayor Winddancer less than a year after the show opened demonstrates that Disney is willing to update the attraction as the wider Zootopia franchise develops. The new scene does not replace the main presentation, but it gives returning guests an additional character moment while providing a stronger explanation for the trouble surrounding Zoogether Day.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! continues to operate in the Tree of Life Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with daily performance times available through the My Disney Experience app and Walt Disney World’s official website.
