Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets Debuts First Holiday Overlay With New Songs, Decorations, and Ride Effects

The Electric Mayhem has officially kicked off its first Christmas season at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the band has brought considerably more than a few holiday songs along for the ride.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay debuted November 4, 2026, introducing seasonal changes throughout the attraction, including the outdoor courtyard, queue, recording studio, launch area, ride soundtrack, and exit.

The limited-time experience is scheduled to continue through January 6, 2027.

Although Disney announced the holiday overlay in October, its debut has provided the first detailed look at how extensively the attraction has been transformed. New videos and photographs reveal changes to the attraction’s storyline, character appearances, countdown sequences, and decorations.

For an attraction that only reopened with its Muppets theme in May, the holiday overlay represents another significant addition to the experience.

Four Holiday Songs Join the Ride Soundtrack

The most noticeable change comes once guests board their limousine for the high-speed journey through Hollywood.

The regular Electric Mayhem soundtrack has been replaced by four holiday recordings featuring the Muppets and several special guests.

The seasonal lineup includes:

  • “Little Saint Nick” — The Electric Mayhem
  • “Holiday Road” — The Electric Mayhem featuring Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear
  • “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” — The Electric Mayhem featuring Jennifer Hudson
  • “Silver Bells” — The Electric Mayhem featuring Cyndi Lauper

Each recording provides a different musical accompaniment to the coaster’s familiar twists, turns, and inversions.

The songs are a central part of the overlay, but the changes begin well before guests board their vehicles.

The Electric Mayhem’s Recording Studio Gets a Christmas Makeover

Inside G-Force Records, the attraction’s recording studio has been decorated for the holidays.

Garland, tinsel, lights, and other seasonal decorations now appear throughout the pre-show area.

Scooter, whose Audio-Animatronics figure was introduced with the Muppets version of the attraction earlier this year, has received a festive costume update.

The character now wears a Santa hat and a red scarf decorated with snowflakes.

A Christmas tree with multicolored lights stands nearby, while additional decorations surround the studio’s television screens and windows.

A Hanukkah menorah has also been incorporated into the seasonal decorations.

The updated environment supports the holiday storyline, which finds Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips preparing for a special concert.

As usual, getting the band to its performance on time presents a challenge.

Scooter and his penguin audio engineers must keep the preparations moving while the musicians rehearse.

The holiday overlay expands on the storyline established when the attraction reopened earlier this year, rather than replacing it with an unrelated Christmas experience.

New Holiday Countdown Animations Appear Before Launch

The changes continue into the coaster’s launch area.

Several familiar signs have received seasonal decorations, including Christmas lights and holiday sweater-inspired designs.

The launch countdown screens also feature new animations.

One version incorporates holiday sweater patterns featuring several Muppet characters, including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Scooter, and Gonzo.

Other countdown variations prominently feature Animal, with seasonal graphics and different approaches to displaying the countdown numbers.

These changes are particularly notable because the launch sequence is one of the attraction’s most recognizable moments.

Rather than simply changing the music played during the ride, Disney has modified the visual presentation guests see immediately before accelerating into the coaster.

Holiday Decorations Continue Through the Exit

The seasonal decorations do not end when the ride is over.

The unloading area features a series of decorated Christmas trees positioned among Electric Mayhem concert posters.

The attraction has also introduced special holiday-themed Disney PhotoPass ride photos.

The seasonal photo designs are scheduled to be available from November 4 through January 6, matching the announced operating period of the overlay.

Outside the building, the courtyard has received a holiday soundtrack of its own.

The music includes a wide variety of seasonal recordings, ranging from traditional Christmas songs to rock-oriented holiday performances.

That means guests walking through this portion of Sunset Boulevard can experience some of the attraction’s holiday atmosphere without actually riding the coaster.

A New Chapter for the Former Aerosmith Coaster

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster originally opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 29, 1999, featuring Aerosmith.

The attraction became known for its indoor launch, inversions, and onboard music.

Disney subsequently replaced the Aerosmith theme with The Muppets, reopening the attraction in May 2026.

The new version retained the coaster’s physical ride system while introducing The Electric Mayhem, updated storytelling, new music, and Muppet characters.

The holiday overlay is the first seasonal transformation of the attraction since that change.

It also gives Disney an opportunity to expand the Muppets storyline without undertaking another major refurbishment.

For longtime visitors, the experience offers a familiar coaster with a substantially different atmosphere.

For guests who have not yet experienced the Muppets version, the holiday season provides a particularly elaborate introduction.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay is scheduled to operate through January 6, 2027, with the attraction returning to its regular presentation afterward.

Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios during the holiday season can experience the overlay with regular park admission, subject to the attraction’s operating schedule and availability.
