Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! is a live musical stage show presented inside the Theater in the Wild at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The 25-minute production brings the underwater world of Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo to life through large-scale puppetry, live performers, animated backdrops, music, lighting, and special effects. Although the show is accessible to guests of all ages, its polished theatrical presentation gives it more substance than a typical children’s attraction. It also provides a welcome indoor break during a day at a park where many of the headline experiences are outdoors.
The current production revisits the familiar story from a new perspective. It begins after the events of Finding Dory, with the aquarium fish from Dr. P. Sherman’s dentist office having completed their journey across the ocean to the Marine Life Institute. From there, the Tank Gang recounts Nemo’s original adventure: his capture by a diver, Marlin and Dory’s search across the ocean, the shark encounter, the jellyfish field, and the exhilarating ride through the East Australian Current with Crush and the sea turtles. The show retains fan-favorite songs including “In the Big Blue World” and “Go with the Flow,” while new set pieces and an LED video wall expand the underwater environment beyond the physical stage.

Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! officially debuted on June 13, 2022, as a reimagined successor to Finding Nemo – The Musical. The earlier production began previews on November 5, 2006, and officially opened in January 2007. It was an unusually ambitious theme park show, featuring 14 original songs written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez years before their work on Frozen. The expressive puppets were designed by Michael Curry, whose credits also include the Broadway production of The Lion King.
The Theater in the Wild itself predates Nemo. Originally an outdoor amphitheater, the 1,500-seat venue previously hosted Journey into the Jungle Book and Tarzan Rocks! before being enclosed for the 2007 musical. The newer version is approximately 15 minutes shorter than its predecessor, but it preserves the defining qualities that made the original production memorable: visible puppeteers, imaginative staging, colorful scenery, and songs that feel surprisingly natural for a film that was not originally a musical.
Today, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! remains one of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most substantial family-friendly shows. Its combination of theatrical craft, familiar characters, and an energetic retelling of a beloved Pixar story gives the park a distinctive indoor experience that still feels more elaborate than a simple movie adaptation.
