Walt Disney World is currently in one of its busiest periods of construction and transformation in years. Magic Kingdom is preparing for major additions including Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas, Hollywood Studios is in the middle of several major projects, and numerous Disney resort hotels are undergoing phased renovations.
Not every closure means the same thing. Some attractions disappear for a few weeks of routine maintenance, others close for lengthy reimaginings, and still others are permanently retired to make way for something new. Resort refurbishments can also affect pools, restaurants, lobbies, transportation, and other amenities without closing the entire hotel.

Announced Disney World Projects Without Firm Opening Dates
Disney has also announced several major projects that do not yet have firm public opening dates. These are worth watching when planning trips farther into the future, but they should not yet be treated as attractions with guaranteed opening years.
- Piston Peak National Park (Magic Kingdom) — The Cars-inspired expansion replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area remains under development. Disney has not announced an opening date.
- Cars Ridge Run Rally (Magic Kingdom) — The major thrill attraction planned for Piston Peak National Park. Opening date TBD.
- Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along (Magic Kingdom) — A second Cars attraction aimed at the entire family. Opening date TBD.
- Disney Villains Land (Magic Kingdom) — Disney has confirmed a major new land devoted to its villains, including a Maleficent-themed roller coaster and another attraction inspired by the Magic Mirror. Opening date TBD.
- Spaceship Earth Reimagining (EPCOT) — Disney has announced a significant update built around the broader story of human connection. A closure date and reopening timetable have not yet been announced.
- New Figment and Dreamfinder Attraction (EPCOT) — Disney has confirmed that Dreamfinder will return alongside Figment in a new Journey Into Imagination experience. Opening timeline TBD.
- Expedition Everest Yeti Update (Animal Kingdom) — Disney has announced plans to bring the attraction’s massive Yeti Audio-Animatronic back to life. Disney has not yet announced a refurbishment schedule.
Disney World Resort Refurbishment Schedule (2026–2028)
Most Disney resort refurbishment projects occur in phases, meaning the hotels remain open while individual rooms, restaurants, pools, lobbies, or outdoor areas are unavailable. Guests may also encounter construction noise or modified walking routes during daytime hours.
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa — Renovation work continues in select areas, including the covered entrance, into early 2027. Grand Floridian Cafe has been closed since July 20 for refurbishment. Disney’s operating calendar and dining reservations currently indicate a November 2, 2026 reopening. Until then, its brunch offering remains temporarily relocated to Cítricos.
- Disney’s Wilderness Lodge — Exterior refurbishment work continues through late 2026. Work involving the security kiosk area is also expected to continue into mid-October.
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower — Phased refurbishment continues in select areas, including portions of Bay Lake Tower, the Main Tower atrium, and exterior areas, through late 2027.
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside — Guest room refurbishments continue through August 2027. The resort remains open throughout the project.
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter — Scat Cat’s Club – Café and Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge will both close October 6, 2026 for refurbishment. The café is expected to reopen in December, while the lounge is expected to reopen in January 2027. During the work, Mickey-shaped beignets and coffee will move to Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory. A temporary bar near the café will operate from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
- Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa — Refurbishment continues in select areas, including the Treehouse Villas and Porte Cochere, through fall 2026. Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is currently closed for a major greens and irrigation refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen October 23, 2026. The Turf Club Bar and Grill is currently closed from late August through late September 2026, while The Turf Club Lounge has reopened following its refurbishment. The resort’s tennis courts are also unavailable from late August through November 2026.
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House — Guest room refurbishments run from May 2026 through January 2027.
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village — A phased refurbishment of the main lobby and entrance began August 17. The main lobby and primary entrance are expected to be affected through October 9. The north lobby corridor is scheduled for work September 28 through October 9, while the south lobby corridor is scheduled for October 26 through November 6.
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Beach Club Villas — Exterior maintenance and refurbishment work continues through late 2027. The Beach Club Villas lobby is also undergoing phased maintenance through mid-September 2026, with portions of the lobby temporarily unavailable at times.
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort — Exterior refurbishment work continues through late 2026.
- Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort — Guest room refurbishments began in May 2026 and are expected to continue into January 2027.
- Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort — Grandstand Spirits Pool Bar will close for refurbishment beginning September 18, 2026 and is expected to remain unavailable through mid-December. A temporary pool bar will operate nearby during the project. Surfboard Bay Pool itself is not scheduled to close as part of this refurbishment.
- Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and BoardWalk Villas — Refurbishment continues in select resort areas through late 2026. The Village Green courtyard’s August 10–September 4 refurbishment has now concluded. The former Jellyrolls location will reopen as Hurly-Burly on October 1, 2026. From January 11 through April 2027, Luna Park Pool, the Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations will close for routine maintenance; the Villas Pool and Inn Pool will remain available.
- Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort — A major phased refurbishment of the Convention Center and El Centro corridor began August 10, 2026 and is expected to continue through late September 2027. The resort remains open during construction.
- Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — Work continues in select areas, including entrance-roadway changes, through late 2026. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace remains temporarily closed for refurbishment. Disney currently lists no exact reopening date, although work around the Great Ceremonial House is expected to continue through late October. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto remains available.
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort — Disney has published a detailed timeline for the resort’s upcoming major room refurbishment. Work will begin in mid-June 2027 and continue through October 2028, proceeding in phases with one themed area being refurbished at a time. Both the family suites and The Little Mermaid rooms will be included, and the resort is expected to remain open throughout the project.
Recent Disney World Reopenings and Completed Refurbishments
The following locations have recently reopened or completed refurbishment work and no longer need to be treated as active closures:
- The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge (Hollywood Studios) — The permanent outdoor lounge patio reopened on September 4, 2026 after a refurbishment that began in June. The updated space now includes a large covered awning, ceiling fans, refreshed pavement and lighting. The main Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant remained open throughout the project.
- Village Green (Disney’s BoardWalk) — The courtyard’s scheduled refurbishment ran from August 10 through September 4, 2026. The temporary closure period has now ended.
- The Turf Club Lounge (Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa) — Reopened August 31 following refurbishment with a rebuilt full-service bar, new furnishings and an updated menu. The neighboring Turf Club Bar and Grill is now the portion undergoing refurbishment.
- Yachtsman Steakhouse (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort) — Reopened August 28 following its multi-month refurbishment.

Attractions and Locations That Have Permanently Closed
The following attractions, restaurants, and areas are not undergoing temporary refurbishments—they have permanently closed. In many cases, their former locations are already being transformed into major new Walt Disney World projects.
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed March 1, 2026. Its replacement, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, opened May 26, 2026.
- DINOSAUR (Animal Kingdom) — Final operating day February 1, 2026; permanently closed February 2 as the remaining DinoLand U.S.A. area shut down for construction of Tropical Americas.
