Disney World Ride Closures and Reopen Dates (2026)

Planning a Walt Disney World trip? Few things can throw off a carefully built park itinerary faster than arriving to find a favorite attraction behind construction walls. This continuously updated guide tracks current Disney World ride closures, refurbishments, temporary shutdowns, permanent closures, and announced reopening dates across Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the water parks, Disney transportation, and Walt Disney World resorts.

Walt Disney World is currently in one of its busiest periods of construction and transformation in years. Magic Kingdom is preparing for major additions including Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas, Hollywood Studios is in the middle of several major projects, and numerous Disney resort hotels are undergoing phased renovations.

Not every closure means the same thing. Some attractions disappear for a few weeks of routine maintenance, others close for lengthy reimaginings, and still others are permanently retired to make way for something new. Resort refurbishments can also affect pools, restaurants, lobbies, transportation, and other amenities without closing the entire hotel.

We update this page as Disney announces new refurbishment schedules, reopening dates, permanent closures, and attraction opening timelines. Short-term operational downtime caused by weather or technical problems is not included.

Several major 2026 additions have now opened and have therefore been removed from the upcoming list. Soarin’ Across America, Bluey’s Wild World and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets all debuted May 26, while The Magic of Disney Animation opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on September 14.

Announced Disney World Projects Without Firm Opening Dates

Disney has also announced several major projects that do not yet have firm public opening dates. These are worth watching when planning trips farther into the future, but they should not yet be treated as attractions with guaranteed opening years.

• Piston Peak National Park (Magic Kingdom) — The Cars-inspired expansion replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area remains under development. Disney has not announced an opening date.
• Cars Ridge Run Rally (Magic Kingdom) — The major thrill attraction planned for Piston Peak National Park. Opening date TBD.
• Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along (Magic Kingdom) — A second Cars attraction aimed at the entire family. Opening date TBD.
• Disney Villains Land (Magic Kingdom) — Disney has confirmed a major new land devoted to its villains, including a Maleficent-themed roller coaster and another attraction inspired by the Magic Mirror. Opening date TBD.
• Spaceship Earth Reimagining (EPCOT) — Disney has announced a significant update built around the broader story of human connection. A closure date and reopening timetable have not yet been announced.
• New Figment and Dreamfinder Attraction (EPCOT) — Disney has confirmed that Dreamfinder will return alongside Figment in a new Journey Into Imagination experience. Opening timeline TBD.
• Expedition Everest Yeti Update (Animal Kingdom) — Disney has announced plans to bring the attraction’s massive Yeti Audio-Animatronic back to life. Disney has not yet announced a refurbishment schedule.

Disney World Resort Refurbishment Schedule (2026–2028)

Most Disney resort refurbishment projects occur in phases, meaning the hotels remain open while individual rooms, restaurants, pools, lobbies, or outdoor areas are unavailable. Guests may also encounter construction noise or modified walking routes during daytime hours.

• Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa — Renovation work continues in select areas, including the covered entrance, into early 2027. Grand Floridian Cafe has been closed since July 20 for refurbishment. Disney continues to describe the closure as running through October, while the current reservation calendar indicates a November 2, 2026 return. Until then, its brunch offering remains temporarily relocated to Cítricos.
• Disney’s Wilderness Lodge — Exterior refurbishment work continues through late 2026. Work involving the security kiosk area is also expected to continue into mid-October.
• Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower — Phased refurbishment continues in select areas, including portions of Bay Lake Tower, the Main Tower atrium and exterior areas, through late 2027.
• Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside — Guest room refurbishments continue through August 2027. The resort remains open throughout the project.
• Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter — Scat Cat’s Club – Café and Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge will both close October 6, 2026 for refurbishment. The café is expected to reopen in December, while the lounge is expected to reopen in January 2027. During the work, Mickey-shaped beignets and coffee will move to Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory. A temporary bar near the café will operate from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
• Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa — Refurbishment continues in select areas, including the Treehouse Villas and Porte Cochere, through fall 2026. Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is currently closed for a major greens and irrigation refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen October 23, 2026. The Turf Club Bar and Grill remains closed for refurbishment, but Disney’s reservation calendar now shows dining availability beginning September 30, 2026. The Turf Club Lounge has already reopened. The resort’s tennis courts remain unavailable through November 2026.
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House — Guest room refurbishments continue through January 2027.
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village — A phased refurbishment of the main lobby and entrance continues. The main lobby and primary entrance are expected to be affected through October 9. The north lobby corridor is scheduled for work September 28 through October 9, while the south lobby corridor is scheduled for October 26 through November 6.
• Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Beach Club Villas — Exterior maintenance and refurbishment work continues through late 2027. Guests should expect visible construction and possible altered pathways in affected areas.
• Disney’s Yacht Club Resort — Exterior refurbishment work continues through late 2026. As of mid-September, construction has reached the resort’s main lobby entrance, which is temporarily blocked by scaffolding and construction walls. Guests are currently being redirected to an alternate entrance near Ale & Compass Restaurant. Disney has not announced a specific date for normal lobby-entry access to resume.
• Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort — Guest room refurbishments began in May 2026 and are expected to continue into January 2027.
• Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort — Grandstand Spirits Pool Bar is now closed for refurbishment. The closure began September 18, 2026 and is expected to continue through mid-December. A temporary pool bar is available nearby. Surfboard Bay Pool remains open.
• Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and BoardWalk Villas — Refurbishment continues in select resort areas through late 2026. The former Jellyrolls location will reopen as Hurly-Burly on October 1, 2026. From January 11 through April 2027, Luna Park Pool, the Crazy Play Area and Leaping Horse Libations will close for routine maintenance; the Villas Pool and Inn Pool will remain available.
• Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort — A major phased refurbishment of the Convention Center and El Centro corridor began August 10, 2026 and is expected to continue through late September 2027. The resort remains open during construction.
• Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — Work continues in select areas, including entrance-roadway changes, through late 2026. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace remains temporarily closed for refurbishment. Disney currently lists no exact reopening date, while Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto remains available.
• Disney’s Art of Animation Resort — A major room refurbishment will begin in mid-June 2027 and continue through October 2028, proceeding in phases with one themed area being refurbished at a time. Both the family suites and The Little Mermaid rooms will be included, and the resort is expected to remain open throughout the project.

Recent Disney World Openings, Reopenings and Completed Refurbishments

The following locations have recently opened, reopened or completed refurbishment work and no longer need to be treated as upcoming projects or active closures:

• The Magic of Disney Animation (Hollywood Studios) — Opened September 14, 2026. The reimagined Animation Courtyard experience includes Once Upon a Studio Theater, Olaf Draws!, Off the Page! character greetings and additional interactive Disney Animation experiences.
• The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge (Hollywood Studios) — The permanent outdoor lounge patio reopened September 4 after a refurbishment that began in June. The updated space includes a large covered awning, ceiling fans, refreshed pavement and lighting.
• Village Green (Disney’s BoardWalk) — The courtyard’s scheduled refurbishment concluded September 4.
• The Turf Club Lounge (Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa) — Reopened August 31 following refurbishment with a rebuilt full-service bar, new furnishings and an updated menu.
• Yachtsman Steakhouse (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort) — Reopened August 28 following its multi-month refurbishment.
• Johari Treasures (Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village) — Reopened August 29 following its temporary August refurbishment.

Attractions and Locations That Have Permanently Closed

The following attractions, restaurants and areas are not undergoing temporary refurbishments—they have permanently closed. In many cases, their former locations are already being transformed into major new Walt Disney World projects.

• Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill (Disney Springs) — Served its final guests on September 13, 2026 and is now permanently closed. The restaurant opened in Town Center in November 2018. Disney has not announced a replacement for the space.
• Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed March 1, 2026. Its replacement, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, opened May 26, 2026.
• DINOSAUR (Animal Kingdom) — Final operating day February 1, 2026; permanently closed February 2 as the remaining DinoLand U.S.A. area shut down for construction of Tropical Americas.
• DinoLand U.S.A. (Animal Kingdom) — The land permanently closed in phases between 2025 and February 2026. Its former footprint is becoming Pueblo Esperanza, the new Tropical Americas land opening in 2027.
• The Boneyard (Animal Kingdom) — Permanently closed September 1, 2025 as part of the DinoLand U.S.A. transformation.
• Trilo-Bites and Dino-Bite Snacks (Animal Kingdom) — Permanently closed October 20, 2025 during the DinoLand U.S.A. phaseout.
• Star Wars Launch Bay (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed September 25, 2025. Its former building has now been transformed as part of The Magic of Disney Animation.
• Muppet*Vision 3D (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed June 8, 2025 after a final day of operation on June 7. The former Grand Avenue area is being redeveloped into Monstropolis.
• PizzeRizzo (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed June 8, 2025 as part of the Monstropolis redevelopment.
• Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano (Hollywood Studios) — Permanently closed after its final day on May 10, 2025 as Disney prepared the surrounding area for Monstropolis.
• Tom Sawyer Island (Magic Kingdom) — Permanently closed July 7, 2025 after its final operating day on July 6. The area is being redeveloped for Piston Peak National Park.
• Aunt Polly’s (Magic Kingdom) — Permanently closed with Tom Sawyer Island in July 2025.
• Liberty Belle Riverboat (Magic Kingdom) — Permanently closed after July 6, 2025 as the Rivers of America area began its transformation.
• Westward Ho (Magic Kingdom) — Permanently closed in June 2026 as construction and operational changes continued around Frontierland.
• Refreshment Port (EPCOT) — The longtime location permanently closed in January 2026. The space subsequently became La Poutinerie, which opened July 1, 2026.
• Jellyrolls (Disney’s BoardWalk) — The longtime dueling piano bar permanently closed at Walt Disney World after its final night on April 19, 2025. Its former BoardWalk space is becoming Hurly-Burly, opening October 1, 2026.
