Ample Hills Creamery was a short-lived but fondly remembered ice cream shop at Disney’s BoardWalk, where it brought a distinctly Brooklyn sensibility to one of Walt Disney World’s most atmospheric resort districts.
The shop opened to guests on May 15, 2016, in the BoardWalk entertainment, dining, and shopping area, giving Disney’s Crescent Lake corridor a premium scoop shop that felt more artisanal than standard quick-service dessert.
The location was especially notable because it marked Ample Hills Creamery’s first storefront outside New York City, a major vote of confidence for a brand that had built its reputation on playful, densely mixed ice cream flavors and a homespun, neighborhood-parlor identity. At Disney, that identity translated surprisingly well. The BoardWalk itself is themed to early 20th-century seaside amusement districts, and Ample Hills’ old-fashioned parlor feel, visible kitchen-style presentation, and bold flavor lineup made it a natural fit along the promenade overlooking Crescent Lake. Guests could stop in before or after visiting EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or make it part of a relaxed resort evening alongside the BoardWalk’s restaurants and nightlife.
During its Walt Disney World run, Ample Hills became known for flavors that felt more inventive than the typical theme park ice cream counter. Reports from its opening period highlighted options such as Malty Salty Pretzel Punch, Coffee Toffee Coffee, Cotton Candy, and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, all of which helped the shop stand out in a resort area already strong on dining. For many Disney fans, it became one of the best non-park dessert stops on property: casual, highly themed to its setting, and easy to pair with an evening stroll around the BoardWalk.
Its Walt Disney World story, however, ended abruptly. The BoardWalk location closed in March 2020 during the broader resort shutdown, and Disney later confirmed that its agreement with Ample Hills had ended and that the BoardWalk shop would not reopen. A planned Ample Hills location at Disney Springs also never opened. In May 2021, Disney replaced the space with BoardWalk Ice Cream, a Disney-operated shop featuring sundaes and ice cream treats inspired by Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.
