Contempo Café is the main quick-service restaurant at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, located on the Grand Canyon Concourse beneath the resort’s famous monorail beam. Its setting is a major part of its appeal: guests can eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner while monorails glide through the center of one of Walt Disney World’s most recognizable hotels. Disney describes the restaurant as offering a “futuristic view” and a diverse menu for all three meals, with mobile ordering available.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is casual, bright, and efficient, fitting the Contemporary’s modernist identity. It is not a heavily themed character meal like nearby Chef Mickey’s, nor is it a destination lounge or signature dining venue like California Grill. Instead, Contempo Café serves the everyday needs of resort guests: coffee and breakfast before the parks, a quick lunch between plans, dinner after returning from Magic Kingdom, or a late-night dessert before heading back to the room. Its placement beside the resort’s large Mary Blair-inspired mural and within view of the monorail makes even a simple counter-service meal feel distinctly tied to the Contemporary.
The current menu includes approachable American quick-service fare such as breakfast platters, Mickey-shaped waffles, breakfast sandwiches, bowls, burgers, patty melts, sandwiches, fish and shrimp baskets, plant-based options, cupcakes, cakes, and other grab-and-go items. The food is not meant to be the most adventurous on property, but it is practical, familiar, and often more convenient than leaving the resort or trying to secure a table-service reservation.
Contempo Café reflects the larger dining evolution of the Contemporary Resort. The resort opened with Walt Disney World in 1971 as a sleek, futuristic hotel built around the monorail, and its dining lineup has changed repeatedly as guest expectations shifted. Contempo Café emerged during the late-2000s reworking of the resort’s food-and-beverage spaces, replacing the former Concourse Steakhouse area after that restaurant closed in 2008. At the same time, the old Food & Fun Center disappeared, and quick-service dining moved into a more visible, convenient location on the Grand Canyon Concourse.
Contempo Café remains valuable because it does exactly what a Deluxe resort quick-service restaurant should do. It is easy, central, family-friendly, and unmistakably connected to its hotel. For Contemporary guests, it is a workhorse dining location; for Disney fans, it is also one of the few places where a casual meal still comes with the kinetic thrill of the monorail passing overhead.
