Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will temporarily close for refurbishment this winter, taking the popular Frontierland water attraction out of service beginning Nov. 2, 2026. Disney currently expects the ride to reopen sometime in December, although an exact return date has not been announced.
The refurbishment will mark the attraction’s first major scheduled closure since it opened at Walt Disney World in June 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou General, the merchandise location associated with the attraction, is also expected to close beginning Nov. 2. An earlier report indicated that nearby Critter Co-Op would close as well, but Disney subsequently confirmed that Critter Co-Op will remain open during the refurbishment.
Disney has not disclosed the specific work planned for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. With the closure taking place during the cooler months, however, the timing follows a familiar pattern for Walt Disney World’s water-based attractions, which are often scheduled for maintenance when temperatures are lower and demand for water rides can decrease.
The attraction experienced some adjusted operating hours during January and February 2025, including early closures on select dates, but remained available rather than undergoing a lengthy full refurbishment. The upcoming November closure will therefore represent a more substantial interruption.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at Magic Kingdom on June 28, 2024, replacing Splash Mountain. The attraction uses the same flume ride system and its signature 50-foot drop, but features an entirely new story inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Princess and the Frog.
Set after the events of the film, the attraction follows Princess Tiana as she prepares for a Mardi Gras celebration and realizes she needs additional musicians for the festivities. Guests travel through the Louisiana bayou alongside Louis the alligator, encountering groups of musical critters before arriving at Tiana’s celebration.
The ride introduced dozens of Audio-Animatronics figures, including new representations of Tiana, Louis and Mama Odie, along with original animal characters created specifically for the attraction. Disney also worked with musicians, artists and cultural experts from New Orleans to shape the music, visual design and Louisiana influences found throughout the experience.
Since February 2025, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has operated with a traditional standby queue at Walt Disney World, replacing the virtual queue system used when the attraction first opened. It is also offered through Disney’s Lightning Lane system when available.
For guests planning Magic Kingdom visits in November, the closure removes one of Frontierland’s primary attractions from the lineup for at least several weeks. Disney has not announced any temporary replacement experience connected with the refurbishment.
The work also comes during a period of significant change in and around Frontierland. Construction continues nearby on Piston Peak National Park, the upcoming Cars-themed expansion being developed on the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island site. The Walt Disney World Railroad is also scheduled for its own separate refurbishment from Sept. 28 through Oct. 29, reopening shortly before Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes.
For now, Disney is only listing a December reopening window for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Guests visiting late in the year should continue checking Walt Disney World’s operating calendar as the refurbishment approaches, as a more specific reopening date could be announced closer to completion.
