Vacation Fun Is Closing Again at Disney’s Hollywood Studios After Brief Return

By | October 2, 2026

Mickey and Minnie may need to postpone their vacation again.

Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie is heading into another temporary closure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this month, continuing an unusually stop-and-start year for one of the park’s smaller attractions.

According to the latest Walt Disney World operating calendar, the Mickey Shorts Theater attraction will be unavailable beginning October 26. Disney has not yet announced exactly why the show is closing again or provided a firm reopening date.

Under ordinary circumstances, a temporary closure of a short animated theater presentation might be a relatively minor operational note. The interesting part is how frequently this particular venue has gone dark during 2026.

Vacation Fun opened with Mickey Shorts Theater in March 2020, alongside Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The attraction occupies the theater that previously presented Star Wars: Path of the Jedi and, before that, Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey.

Rather than functioning as a conventional Disney animated short that can also be watched at home, Vacation Fun was created specifically for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The presentation combines original animation featuring Mickey and Minnie with sequences from the modern Mickey Mouse animated shorts, including Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg and Outback at Ya!.

The theater itself extends the experience beyond the screen.

Its lobby and exterior use the same stylized visual language as the Mickey Mouse shorts, while the exit area includes life-size photo environments inspired by locations appearing in the cartoons. For families-and anyone looking for an air-conditioned break from the Florida heat-it has become a low-key alternative to the park’s larger attractions.

This year, however, Vacation Fun has spent considerable time unavailable.

The theater temporarily closed beginning April 29. Disney subsequently used the location for a special merchandise operation surrounding May the 4th before Vacation Fun returned on May 7.

Another closure began August 9.

Two days later, Disney began distributing a Kermit the Frog Annual Passholder magnet from Mickey Shorts Theater. That distribution continued from August 11 through September 24, effectively turning the theater into an Annual Passholder pickup location rather than an attraction.

Disney’s operating calendar later indicated that Vacation Fun would return September 27.

That reopening did not happen as expected.

Guests arriving at Mickey Shorts Theater that day instead found the doors closed and signage outside stating that there were no Vacation Fun shows. Even the attraction’s exit-area photo opportunities were inaccessible.

The attraction subsequently returned, but its next interruption is already approaching.

Beginning October 26, Vacation Fun is again scheduled to disappear from the Hollywood Studios entertainment lineup. At this point, Disney has not publicly identified whether the upcoming closure involves refurbishment work, another temporary use for the theater, or some other operational requirement.

That distinction is worth emphasizing because the building has increasingly demonstrated its usefulness as flexible event space.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is currently undergoing major changes elsewhere in the park, including the continuing development of Monstropolis and the broader reconfiguration of several areas. Mickey Shorts Theater, meanwhile, has repeatedly served purposes beyond its regular attraction during 2026.

There is currently no indication that Vacation Fun is permanently closing.

Disney continues to maintain an official attraction page for the presentation, describing it as a Mickey and Minnie animated experience and highlighting its themed photo locations.

For guests visiting Hollywood Studios beginning October 26, however, the practical takeaway is simple: do not count on Mickey Shorts Theater being available.

The attraction has become one of the more unpredictable pieces of the park’s 2026 operating lineup, and its newest closure means Mickey and Minnie’s animated vacation will once again be taking an unscheduled break.
