Stitch’s Great Escape! was a now-defunct attraction located at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park. It was an interactive theater experience that opened on November 16, 2004, in Tomorrowland. The attraction was based on the popular Disney animated film “Lilo & Stitch” and featured the mischievous and lovable alien Stitch. The premise of the attraction was that guests were recruited by the Galactic Federation to help restrain Stitch, who was known for his escapades and chaos.

The experience began with guests entering a pre-show area where they were briefed by the Galactic Federation about the unruly nature of Experiment 626, also known as Stitch. The Galactic Federation explained that they needed the guests’ help to contain Stitch using high-tech restraints.
After the pre-show, guests were led into a circular theater with seats equipped with shoulder restraints. In the center of the room was a large circular platform that featured an animatronic Stitch. The attraction used audio-animatronics, special effects, and binaural sound technology to create an immersive experience.
Throughout the show, Stitch would escape from his restraints and cause chaos in the theater, resulting in a wild and entertaining experience for guests. The attraction combined 3D visuals with in-theater effects, such as smells and sensations, to make it feel as if Stitch was right there in the room with the guests.
Stitch’s Great Escape! was known for its interactive nature, as guests were actively involved in the experience. However, the attraction received mixed reviews from visitors, with some praising the interactive elements and others finding it too intense or scary for young children.

Over the years, the attraction faced several operational changes and periods of seasonal operation. However, it permanently closed on January 6, 2018, after being listed as a seasonal attraction for some time.
Since its closure, the space that housed Stitch’s Great Escape! has been used for seasonal events and other experiences during special events, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
While Stitch’s Great Escape! is no longer part of the Magic Kingdom’s attractions, the mischievous and beloved character of Stitch continues to be featured in other Disney experiences and merchandise. Fans of Lilo & Stitch can still enjoy encounters with Stitch at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, character meet-and-greets, and various other Disney media.
