Walt Disney World had a big night at D23 2026. During the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress showcase on August 15, Disney Imagineers revealed new attraction names, story details and opening windows for projects already under construction — then capped the presentation with several surprises that longtime fans have been waiting years to hear.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom received some of the most substantial updates. The new Encanto attraction coming to Tropical Americas is officially titled Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. The family-friendly ride will take guests inside Casita on Antonio’s gift day, traveling through new rooms created specifically for the attraction before reaching his animal-filled rainforest bedroom.
Disney also revealed the name of the land’s second headliner: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The attraction will send guests alongside Indy into an ancient Maya temple and ultimately into the Maya Underworld. In another notable first, Harrison Ford confirmed that his likeness will be used for the attraction’s Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figure — the first Disney Parks attraction to feature Ford’s face as Indy.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Monstropolis now has an opening target. Disney confirmed that portions of the new Monsters, Inc. land will debut in 2027, while construction continues on its massive door-vault coaster.
The former MuppetVision 3D theater will become home to Welcome to Monstropolis, a new show hosted by Mike and Sulley with an original song composed by Disney Legend Randy Newman. Disney also revealed Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza and shared more about Harryhausen’s, where a multi-tentacled sushi chef Audio-Animatronics figure will help bring the famous restaurant from Monsters, Inc. to life.
Magic Kingdom received an equally large batch of announcements. The two attractions coming to Piston Peak National Park are now officially named Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along. Ridge Run Rally will take guests across an elaborate off-road course filled with mountain trails, snow, geysers and rugged terrain, while Miss Fritter will headline a family-friendly demolition derby-inspired attraction.
Disney also pulled back the curtain on Villains Land. The area’s backstory centers on a corrupted Wishing Well whose poisoned magic attracts Disney’s most infamous villains. Its two headlining attractions will include a Maleficent coaster, sending riders through enchanted briars surrounding her fortress, and a Magic Mirror dark ride beneath the Evil Queen’s palace featuring an assortment of Disney Villains.
Elsewhere in Magic Kingdom, Disney showed the new 1980s scene being created for Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice the updated show’s mom and dad, and the reimagined attraction — which will also feature a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure in its opening — is scheduled to debut in late spring 2027.
EPCOT delivered two of the evening’s biggest surprises. Spaceship Earth is officially being reimagined, shifting its focus from the history of human communication to the broader theme of human connection while extending the story into the internet age and beyond.
Then came the announcement many longtime EPCOT fans have been waiting for: Journey Into Imagination is getting a complete reimagining, with Dreamfinder returning alongside Figment. Disney did not announce an opening date or additional attraction details.
Disney also confirmed that the infamous Yeti inside Expedition Everest will finally be brought back to life. The giant Audio-Animatronics figure has famously operated in a limited mode for much of the attraction’s history. Disney has not yet revealed when the repaired figure will debut.
Finally, Disney and Epic Games launched Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, connecting the Galaxy’s Edge attraction with a new Fortnite adventure called Smugglers Gambit and allowing participating guests to continue elements of their mission after leaving the park.
One conspicuous omission was a Walt Disney World Tomorrowland overhaul. Disneyland’s Tomorrowland is officially being reimagined, while Space Mountain projects are also moving ahead internationally, but Disney announced no comparable plans for Florida.
Even without that reveal, D23 2026 dramatically expanded the roadmap for Walt Disney World. From entirely new lands to renewed attention for some of the resort’s most beloved legacy attractions, the next several years are shaping up to bring substantial changes across all four theme parks.
