Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!

Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee! was a limited-run live entertainment offering at Magic Kingdom created to introduce Princess Tiana to Walt Disney World guests ahead of the release of The Princess and the Frog. Debuting in late October 2009 and running through January 3, 2010, the show transformed the Rivers of America into a New Orleans-style musical celebration, using the Liberty Belle Riverboat as its floating stage. It was short-lived by design, but its timing made it historically significant: Tiana was Disney’s first new princess of that era, and the show gave her an unusually elaborate park debut.

The experience blended a street procession with a riverboat performance. Characters and performers brought Mardi Gras energy to Liberty Square and Frontierland, with dancers, colorful costumes, jazz rhythms, and the festive atmosphere associated with New Orleans. Once the show moved aboard the Liberty Belle, Tiana, Prince Naveen, Louis, and Dr. Facilier became the centerpiece of a lively musical presentation inspired by the film. Songs by Randy Newman helped connect the park production directly to the movie’s sound, while the riverboat setting gave the show a sense of scale and theatrical novelty that a standard castle-stage appearance would not have matched.

One of the show’s most memorable features was its guest participation. Selected children and families could become part of the celebration, joining the performers and, in some cases, meeting Tiana and Naveen aboard the boat after the show. That interactive element made the production feel more personal than a simple promotional parade. For many young guests, it was their first encounter with Tiana not as a movie character, but as a fully realized Disney Parks princess.

Historically, Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee! belongs to a very specific moment in Disney entertainment. The late 2000s were a period when Disney still used temporary park productions aggressively to launch major animated films, and this show was a strong example of that strategy. It also stands out because it used one of Magic Kingdom’s classic opening-era elements—the Liberty Belle and the Rivers of America—to celebrate a brand-new character and a fresh musical world.

Today, the show is remembered as an energetic, colorful preview of Tiana’s growing importance in the parks. Her Walt Disney World presence later expanded through meet-and-greets, parade appearances, and eventually Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened at Magic Kingdom in 2024. Although Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee! lasted only a few months, it gave Princess Tiana one of the most memorable character debuts in modern Magic Kingdom history.
