Zanzibar Trading Company is a small but atmospheric Adventureland location in Magic Kingdom, positioned near The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, the Aladdin and Jasmine meet-and-greet area, and the pathway toward Swiss Family Treehouse. For many guests, it was never a destination shop in the way the Emporium or Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar might be, but it played an important role in Adventureland’s texture: a shaded, market-like space that helped bridge the land’s older jungle-exploration identity with the Agrabah-inspired environment added around The Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
The shop’s merchandise identity leaned toward exoticized travel and marketplace goods rather than standard character souvenirs. Over the years, it was associated with Arabian-themed clothing, hats, gifts, pottery, artwork, wood crafts, decorative pieces, and related Adventureland merchandise. Its connection to the neighboring Agrabah Bazaar gave the space a natural story purpose, making it feel like one stall in a larger fantasy marketplace rather than a standalone retail room.

Historically, Zanzibar Trading Company is tied to a much older piece of Adventureland retail history. The location evolved from earlier shops in the land’s original bazaar complex, most notably Zanzibar Shell Company, which itself had replaced Tropic Toppers. That lineage matters because early Magic Kingdom retail was far more specialized than it is today. Adventureland once featured a network of small shops with specific identities: hats, shells, tropical apparel, imports, African-inspired goods, and Middle Eastern-style gifts. Zanzibar Trading Company carried forward some of that spirit, even as the surrounding area became more strongly linked to Aladdin in the early 2000s.
In more recent years, the location’s role has shifted away from traditional retail. In 2024, the former merchandise space was reported as being converted into a covered seating and refreshment area, offering guests a shaded place to rest near one of Magic Kingdom’s hottest and most congested walkways. Snack items such as popcorn, candied nuts, ice cream bars, and bottled beverages were associated with the reworked space, making it more of a practical guest-relief spot than a themed shop.
Today, Zanzibar Trading Company is best understood as a quiet supporting piece of Adventureland rather than a headline location. Its significance comes from the way it reflects Magic Kingdom’s layered retail history: the transition from highly specific specialty shops, to Agrabah-style marketplace theming, to modern guest-service flexibility. Even in a modest role, it helps preserve the sense that Adventureland is not just a route between attractions, but a collection of tucked-away markets, shaded corners, and atmospheric details waiting to be noticed.
