ESPN Club was a sports bar and table-service restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk, located along Crescent Lake in the EPCOT Resort Area. Opening with the BoardWalk entertainment district on July 1, 1996, it gave Walt Disney World a high-energy, sports-focused dining venue at a time when ESPN’s identity as a Disney-owned brand was becoming increasingly valuable across the resort. The concept was straightforward but effective: surround guests with televisions, memorabilia, game-day atmosphere, casual food, and enough live sports coverage to make the restaurant feel like a miniature sports headquarters.
The restaurant’s biggest draw was its media-saturated environment. ESPN Club featured dozens of screens throughout the dining room, bar, and restrooms, so guests could follow games from nearly anywhere inside the building. The space was loud, casual, and built for fans who did not want to miss a major matchup while on vacation. Its menu leaned into familiar sports-bar fare—burgers, wings, sandwiches, nachos, beer, and shareable appetizers—making it especially popular during football season, bowl games, March Madness, playoff runs, and other high-demand sports windows.
Historically, ESPN Club fit Disney’s BoardWalk beautifully. The resort and entertainment district were designed around the atmosphere of early-20th-century Atlantic City and seaside nightlife, with restaurants, lounges, games, and evening activity stretching along the waterfront. ESPN Club added a modern entertainment component to that setting, balancing the BoardWalk’s nostalgic architecture with a contemporary sports-bar concept. It also gave the Crescent Lake resort area something practical: a late-night, casual, group-friendly restaurant that worked for families, convention guests, and adults returning from EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The restaurant closed with Walt Disney World in March 2020 and never reopened. Disney later confirmed its permanent closure in 2022, and the building was redeveloped for The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, which opened at the BoardWalk in 2024 with both a restaurant and bakery concept.
Today, ESPN Club is remembered as one of the defining venues of the old BoardWalk nightlife era. It was not a fine-dining destination, but that was never its purpose. Its appeal came from atmosphere, convenience, and shared energy: fans gathering around screens, families grabbing an easy meal, and Disney resort guests finding a place where real-world sports culture intersected with the vacation bubble. Its absence is still felt by guests who miss having a lively, no-nonsense sports bar in the EPCOT resort loop.
