Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is the outdoor companion to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, offering many of the same tropical drinks and small plates in a more relaxed, open-air setting. Located just outside the Great Ceremonial House, the terrace trades the indoor bar’s special effects and tightly packed showmanship for live music, palm trees, fresh air, and the laid-back atmosphere that has long defined the Polynesian.
The location opened as part of the 2015 reimagining of the resort’s lounge and dining lineup, when Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto brought the popular Disneyland tiki-bar concept to Walt Disney World. While the indoor Grog Grotto is famous for interactive drink effects, hidden references, chanting bartenders, and walls packed with artifacts, the Tiki Terrace serves a slightly different purpose. It is still playful and heavily connected to Trader Sam’s fictional Adventureland mythology, but it feels more like a vacation lounge than a theatrical show scene.
The menu reinforces that shared identity. Guests can find tropical cocktails, rum-forward specialty drinks, souvenir mug options, beer, wine, zero-proof drinks, and shareable food such as dumplings, wings, tacos, sushi rolls, flatbreads, and other island-inspired bites. Many of the best-known Trader Sam’s drinks carry over from the Grog Grotto, including names that reference Jungle Cruise-style humor, volcanic eruptions, nautical exploration, and Disney’s broader tiki-adventure tradition.
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace fits neatly into the Polynesian’s long relationship with themed hospitality. Since opening with Walt Disney World in 1971, the resort has blended South Seas-inspired design, tropical landscaping, dining, music, and lagoon views into one of Disney’s most atmospheric hotel environments. Trader Sam’s added a more modern layer to that legacy, connecting the resort to Adventureland, tiki-bar culture, and Disney’s own history of explorer clubs, jungle expeditions, and playful exotica.
Today, the Tiki Terrace is notable because it offers a more accessible version of the Trader Sam’s experience. The indoor Grog Grotto is small and often difficult to enter without a wait, while the terrace has traditionally allowed guests to enjoy the drinks, food, music, and setting with a little more breathing room. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace remains one of the Polynesian’s most recognizable lounge spaces: casual, tropical, nostalgic, and deeply tied to the resort’s modern identity.
