Located in EPCOT’s World Discovery neighborhood, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of the most ambitious attractions ever created at EPCOT. Housed within the expansive Wonders of Xandar pavilion, the attraction blends high-thrill roller coaster technology with immersive storytelling inspired by Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy films. The story begins before guests even board the ride. Inside the pavilion, visitors are invited to tour a Xandarian exhibit showcasing the connection between Earth and the planet Xandar. The queue is designed like a futuristic museum, filled with detailed displays, alien technology, and a full-scale model of the Galaxarium—a massive rotating projection dome that demonstrates the similarities between galaxies and our own world. The pre-show quickly escalates the narrative as Star-Lord, Gamora, and the rest of the Guardians arrive, recruiting guests for an urgent mission to help stop a cosmic threat targeting Earth.
Once aboard the coaster, riders experience one of Disney’s most innovative ride systems. Cosmic Rewind features the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster, propelling guests backward into space before twisting into a high-speed journey through the galaxy. The ride vehicles are uniquely designed with controlled rotation, allowing them to pivot and direct riders’ attention toward specific show elements, characters, and visual effects throughout the experience. This creates a seamless blend of coaster thrills and dark ride storytelling, something Disney had never fully achieved at this scale before.
The attraction’s indoor environment enhances the immersion, with massive projection screens, practical sets, and synchronized lighting effects simulating a chase through deep space. Adding to the experience is a dynamic soundtrack featuring classic hits from the 1970s and 1980s, with a different song randomly selected for each ride. This ensures that no two rides feel exactly the same, encouraging repeat visits.
At over 5,500 feet in length, Cosmic Rewind is one of the longest indoor roller coasters in the world, yet it remains exceptionally smooth and accessible to a wide range of guests. Rather than focusing on extreme intensity, the attraction emphasizes fluid motion, storytelling, and spectacle.
