Teppan Edo is the teppanyaki-style table-service restaurant in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion, located on the second floor above the Mitsukoshi Department Store. It is one of World Showcase’s most enduring interactive dining experiences, combining a sit-down meal with tableside cooking, light performance, and the communal energy of guests gathered around a hot grill.
The restaurant’s roots go back to EPCOT’s opening day in 1982, when the space operated as Teppanyaki Dining Rooms. That original concept was built around the same basic idea: guests seated together while a chef prepared stir-fried meats, seafood, vegetables, and rice on a flat iron grill in front of them. In 2007, the restaurant was refurbished and reintroduced as Teppan Edo, with a refreshed name and design meant to evoke the stylized elegance of Japan’s Edo period while keeping the familiar teppanyaki format intact.
The appeal of Teppan Edo comes from its blend of food and showmanship. Chefs prepare entrées directly at the table, slicing, seasoning, flipping, arranging, and cooking each component in front of the diners. The performance is not as elaborate as a stage show, but it gives the meal a sense of motion and occasion that works especially well for families, first-time visitors, and groups. Because guests are often seated with other parties, the restaurant also has a more social feel than many EPCOT dining rooms.

The menu is built around grilled combinations of steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, salmon, vegetables, udon noodles, and rice, with appetizers such as edamame, miso soup, calamari, takoyaki, and sushi options helping broaden the meal. It is approachable Japanese dining rather than a deep regional showcase, but that accessibility is a large part of why the restaurant has lasted for so long.
Teppan Edo reflects World Showcase’s original dining philosophy: food as culture, entertainment, and atmosphere. The Japan Pavilion has always been one of EPCOT’s strongest examples of that idea, with restaurants, shopping, gardens, architecture, and live entertainment working together to create a layered guest experience.
Teppan Edo remains popular because it is dependable, interactive, and easy to understand. It may not be EPCOT’s most adventurous Japanese restaurant, especially alongside newer additions like Shiki-Sai and Takumi-Tei, but it continues to occupy an important niche: a lively, guest-friendly teppanyaki meal in one of World Showcase’s most beautiful pavilions.
