Journey Into Imagination

The original “Journey Into Imagination” was a beloved and imaginative dark ride attraction located in the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot. Opened in 1983, it quickly became a fan favorite and captured the essence of Epcot’s mission to celebrate human creativity and innovation.

The attraction was hosted by the whimsical character Figment, a small purple dragon known for his mischievous and playful personality. Figment served as the perfect guide through the realms of imagination, where guests were encouraged to let their creativity run wild.

As guests boarded the ride, they were taken on a journey through various scenes that celebrated the five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Each scene was filled with vibrant colors, playful music, and interactive elements that engaged the senses in delightful ways.

One of the most iconic parts of the original “Journey Into Imagination” was the ImageWorks post-show area. Here, guests could continue their exploration of imagination through hands-on exhibits and interactive experiences. The “Magic Palette” allowed visitors to create colorful digital artwork, and the “Bubble Music” exhibit produced whimsical sounds by popping virtual bubbles.

The attraction emphasized the importance of imagination and creativity in our lives, encouraging guests to see the world in new and exciting ways.

Over the years, the attraction underwent several changes and refurbishments, and the original version of “Journey Into Imagination” was replaced by subsequent iterations. However, Figment remains a beloved character and a symbol of the power of imagination at Epcot.

While the original “Journey Into Imagination” may no longer be in operation, it is fondly remembered by Disney enthusiasts for its whimsy, charm, and the enduring message that imagination is a powerful force that can shape our world in incredible ways.
