World Nature is EPCOT’s environment-focused neighborhood, occupying the former Future World West side of the park and bringing together attractions, restaurants, and experiences built around land, water, oceans, ecosystems, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. It is one of the three modern neighborhoods that replaced Future World, alongside World Celebration and World Discovery, and it serves as the clearest continuation of classic EPCOT’s interest in science, conservation, and planetary systems.
The neighborhood’s strongest historical anchors are The Land and The Seas. The Land pavilion opened with EPCOT Center in 1982 and has long explored agriculture, food production, ecology, and the ways people depend on the planet’s resources. Living with the Land remains one of the park’s most beloved original-style attractions, carrying guests through greenhouses, aquaculture systems, and working growing environments that still feel unmistakably EPCOT. Soarin’, now presented as Soarin’ Across America, gives the pavilion a more emotional and cinematic expression of natural wonder, using flight simulation to turn landscapes into spectacle.
Across the way, The Seas with Nemo & Friends evolved from the original Living Seas pavilion, which opened in 1986 as one of EPCOT’s most ambitious early additions. Its giant aquarium, marine exhibits, dining at Coral Reef Restaurant, and related experiences continue to make the pavilion one of the park’s strongest links to real-world science and animal life. The later addition of Nemo, Dory, Crush, and friends made the pavilion more character-driven, but the core idea remains the same: introducing guests to the scale, mystery, and fragility of ocean environments.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana added a newer layer to World Nature, using an interactive walking trail to connect guests with the water cycle through playful, tactile effects. Its arrival helped give the neighborhood a more open-air identity while bringing Disney animation into EPCOT’s environmental storytelling in a way that feels thematically appropriate.
Today, World Nature is best understood as EPCOT’s ecological heart. It does not fully recreate the academic ambition of old Future World, but it preserves some of that spirit better than almost any other part of the park. Its current-day notoriety comes from that balance: classic EPCOT pavilions, modern character integration, real horticulture and marine life, and a message that still feels central to EPCOT’s purpose—understanding the planet we live on and our place within it.
